The biggest Texas Democratic Get-Out-the-Vote Effort Ever.

It’s happening in 2008. And a large part of it will happen right here. By using TrueBlueAction tools, you are going to join the largest, coordinated Texas Democratic voter identification and turn out effort in history.

On October 20th, 2008 voters will begin casting early votes in every county in Texas and Texas will begin turning True Blue. On that day, the largest number of phonebank and blockwalk volunteers in Texas history will begin getting out the vote of Democrats to take back the White House and the Texas House, improve our numbers in the Texas Senate, and elect local officials in record numbers.

On that date, we’re going to phone and knock and motivate every person who voted in the historic turnout of the 2008 Democratic Primary. We’ll add in those folks who’ve voted in past Democratic Primaries. Additionally, we’ll mix into that list all our identified base voters (African Americans, Hispanics, people who live in GOTV precincts, college students and young folks). And top that off with the thousands of voters we will have identified through our "ID Texas" program.

So what must we do to get there? Here’s an outline of the plan.

Register a record number of new voters and re-register those who have moved or are on suspense voter lists. Voter registration begins NOW and ends on Monday, October 6, 2008. We’ll educate these new voters about when and where to vote early or on election day.

  • Phone bank and block walk and identify Democrats among those people who have never voted in Democratic Primary elections. We’ll work through these lists in logical groups and in target areas to help all of our candidates in key districts.
  • You can make ID calls for any Democratic Candidate. Pick your favorite candidate to help: Barack Obama or Rick Noriega, your Congressional candidate or County Constable. We’re adding every contested Democrat to the call list. {If your local candidates are not listed, we just need to know who they are, the office they seek, and who the Republican and/or Libertarian opponents are. Contact us to get them added}
  • You can make ID calls using a County’s "Four Quick Questions" survey. (You can help all Democrats, including Barack Obama, Rick Noriega, plus a local Democratic candidate selected for each precinct in Texas. This simple survey includes a "Straight-ticket Democrat/Republican" question which helps us identify voters for GOTV).
  • Help identify senior voters and disabled Texans who need an application to vote by mail. Using the “Build a Block Walk” tool, you can talk to the seniors in your neighborhood, determine who would like to vote by mail, and make a list to be used in September to get them an application. Using the Online Phone bank we’ll ask all Democratic identified seniors if they wish to vote by mail. Using the Vote-by-Mail Application generator on TrueBlueAction.com, you can print applications to vote by mail for yourself and family if you’re going to be out of town during early voting. You can begin passing our applications to your senior neighbors. And the campaigns will mail applications to seniors who’ve requested them through our phone banks and block walks all across Texas.

Through the fall lots more tools and projects will be added to this tool kit. We welcome your suggestions and ideas.

Now, let’s get going! Join a phonebank or Build a Blockwalk and start canvassing, start helping Turn Texas Blue!
